Thai massage is believed to have been developed by Jivaka Kumar Bhaccha, physician to the Buddha, more than 2,500 years ago in India.
It made its way to Thailand, where the Ayurvedic techniques and principles gradually became influenced by traditional Chinese medicine.
For centuries, Thai massage was performed by monks as one component of Thai medicine.

Thai massage is a type of massage that involves stretching and deep accupressure. This form of bodywork is usually performed on the floor, and the client wears comfortable clothes that allow for movement. No oils are used in Thai massage. It is known in Thailand as "nuat phaen boran", literally, the ancient-manner massage. Most Thai people simply refer to Thai massage as "nuad phaen thai".
